A Nizhny Novgorod resident faces 5 years for infecting his mistress with HIV
In Nizhny Novgorod, the police detained a 37-year-old man on suspicion of HIV infection. According to preliminary information, he, knowing about his diagnosis, hid this information from his partner, which led to her infection. The details were shared in the press service of the regional department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
A resident of the city turned to the police department № 4 and reported that after receiving medical tests, she found out that she was HIV positive. The woman said that she was in an intimate relationship with a man she knew.
On this fact, a criminal case was initiated under Part 2 of Article 122 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, concerning the crime related to HIV infection. During the operational and search activities, police officers identified and detained the suspect. He admitted that he knew about his diagnosis, but deliberately hid it from the woman.
For the duration of the investigation, the man was given an order not to leave. The police is also checking him for involvement in similar crimes. According to the law, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
