A 45-year-old man has been remanded in custody in a case where he is charged with the offense of transmitting acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

He is accused of knowingly infecting a woman with HIV by engaging in unprotected sex with her, resulting in her also being diagnosed with the same syndrome.

Prosecutors from the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Tribunal announced on Wednesday that they initiated criminal proceedings against a man being investigated for committing the offense of transmitting acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.

“On the dates of 14.07.2023 and 26.08.2023, while at addresses in Bucharest and Ilfov County, knowing that he was infected with the HIV – AIDS virus, the defendant (aged 45) engaged in unprotected sexual intercourse with the victim (a 49-year-old woman), resulting in her being infected with the HIV virus, and she was diagnosed with HIV infection stage B2,” the Prosecutor’s Office informed on Wednesday.
