Brisbane cop biter 'may have Hep-C, AIDS'
A Brisbane policeman is waiting to discover whether he’s contracted Hepatitis or HIV after he was allegedly bitten by a man claiming to be infected. X, 30, is accused of biting the officer on the forearm during a struggle at a city police station about 8.30pm (AEST) Friday. He appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday, charged with two counts of serious assault on police.
Prosecutor Acting Senior Sergeant Tara Pease said there was a “real possibility” the wounded officer had contracted a disease as X had told police that he had Hepatitis C and AIDS. The officer was treated at a Brisbane Hospital and is undergoing disease tests to determine whether he has been infected. X had been suffering from mental health issues and had recently found himself homeless, the court heard. Magistrate Jacqui Payne granted X bail and adjourned the case until Monday.
